A 23-year-old police officer saved the life of a newborn baby in Pottsville. The infant was choking on anti-gas drops and the officer came to the rescue just in time.
How did it all happen?
The Police Department in Pottsville, Arkansas, received a call for help about an infant in distress. Police Officer Cody Hubbard jumped into action immediately and went straight to the location to help the baby.
Joe Chronister, the baby's father, said that he was just giving some anti-gas drops to the baby, together with his wife. At one moment Grady, the baby, suddenly started to choke and was losing air, as The Blaze reports.
“We were trying to give Grady his medicine ... and he was taking them just fine. Right towards the end, he started choking,” the father said for "Fox & Friends" on Saturday.
Chronister and Grady's mother, Katelin, called 911 for help as soon as they saw what was happening with their baby boy. Hubbard responded to the call and arrived on the scene to save the baby.
The officer admitted that he was “freaking out” the whole time, but he managed to save the child and get through the emergency with a positive outcome.
The moment when Hubbard clapped Grady on the back and helped to dislodge the drops and let the baby breathe once more was captured on body camera footage.
The officer is a father himself and said that this rescue action was “life-changing” for him.
“Whenever I roll up on this kind of call, anytime I deal with something that involves a child, I think about how the parents would want me to treat the child as if it was mine,” he said.
Right after the incident Hubbard went to his cruiser and cried.
“It felt good to see how that turned out. Mentally I just broke down. I was crying, but it was happy tears,” he told KARK-TV.
KLRT-TV also reported that the officer was convinced he’s had help “from higher up” and that he “prayed for the Lord to be on my side for this one.”
“Thank you so much for saving Grady's life. We're grateful for it,” was the message from Joe and Katelin.
“As an officer you never know what is ahead of you for the day, it can go from 0 to 100 in the blink of an eye. Last Saturday Officer Hubbard went above and beyond to save a little life, thank you Officer Hubbard for your quick response. This is what we are all about!” the Pottsville Police Department shared on social media.
