(NORTHFIELD, Vt.) The Northfield Police Department announced that a teenager was caught in Las Vegas on Saturday after being on the run for months for trying to run two women off a roadway.

According to the department, 18-year-old Aleksander "Sasha" Cherkasov had been on the run since March 20, when he got into an argument with two women.

Police received a report of a vehicle ramming into another vehicle off a steep embankment on Turkey Hill Road at approximately 3:45 p.m.

A police investigation revealed that Cherkasov had been arguing with two female acquaintances before striking one of them. Cherkasov then used his vehicle to almost hit one woman.

The two women were able to drive away, but police said the suspect drove after them and tried to drive them off the road.

The women were able to escape the vehicle before it was pushed over the embankment and were not injured.

Police said Cherkasov fled the scene. An officer found his vehicle from the incident later, but the suspect could not be found.

WCAX reported that Cherkasov was found with his mother, Jennifer Canfield, who police said had been helping him while on the run.

The U.S. Marshals Service, Montpelier Police Department, New Mexico State Police, Las Vegas Police Department and Jacksonville Sheriffs helped in the search to find the fugitive, who had traveled with his mother through Louisiana, New Mexico, Florida, and ultimately Nevada.

The mother-son duo was found after authorities obtained a search warrant for Canfield’s cellphone, which revealed their location and led to their apprehension at a freeway exit in Nevada.

Cherkasov was arrested on outstanding attempted second-degree murder warrants and is pending an extradition hearing to Vermont.
