CLEVELAND — Dollar Bank's annual Mortgages For Mothers Home Buying Workshop is coming back this year. The 22nd workshop starts on Saturday, June 12, 2021. The free workshop will be offered virtually.

This program was started in 1999 as a workshop for single mothers and has expanded over the years. The workshop is now is accessible to anyone who wants to learn how to start owning and not just renting.

The Mortgages For Mothers Workshop is an educational experience for participants, giving information regarding credit counseling services and the power of credit, how the mortgage process works, and ways to save. Highlights also include testimonials from new homeowners who broke the rent cycle with the assistance of Dollar Bank's credit counselors. The guest host of this event is News 5 Anchor Danita Harris.

"It's hard to know where to start when you want to become a homeowner. We break down the process and empower our attendees by preparing them for what comes next. Our goal of the workshop is to make this process feel manageable by sharing our educational resources and offering time with experts in credit counseling, budgeting, and mortgages. Dollar Bank believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to take those first steps toward homeownership," said Morton Stanfield, Senior Vice President of Community Development.

Mortgages For Mothers is only a portion of Dollar Bank's work to help potential borrowers who have credit-building needs. Workshop participants will be encouraged to continue collaborating with Dollar Bank counselors after participating in the workshop. Vice President of Community Development Dorothy Curtis works closely with Dollar Bank's Homeownership Program participants.

"Buying a home can be an overwhelming experience for anyone, especially if you aren't confident in your financial situation. The training and credit counseling we provide create a safety net resulting in low mortgage default rates and homeowners who are prepared for homeownership," said Curtis. Assistance includes educational classes, private credit restoration counseling sessions, special savings programs, and other informational and motivational group sessions.

The online workshop will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. To register, call 1-800-345-3655 or visit https://dollar.bank/ads/free-mortgages-for-mothers-workshop-oh.
