Whether you’re looking to spice things up in your relationship, trying to reconnect after years of dating or just want a few fun dates in your back pocket for when you meet someone worth impressing, trying something new and different is never a bad plan. Anyone can make a dinner reservation at the little Italian place down the street, but it can also be easier than you think to turn an ordinary evening into a magical one. Look no further than these fun and totally unique date ideas.

Detroit Mixology 101

The Detroit Mixology Bartending School is perfect for date night. This activity is a 2-hour long course where you learn to make a signature cocktail. For $60, you each receive three cocktails, light refreshments and a certification of completion. This class is offered on the 3rd and 4th Saturday of every month. Each Mixology 101 has a theme spirit, vodka, cognac, tequila or rum, which only means any class is sure to leave you talking about this fun experience and sends you home with knowlegde you'll share for years to come.

Willis Show Bar

Willis Show Bar will create a unique experience for you and your significant other from the moment you step into this gorgeous Art Moderne style that centers around a stage. Here you'll be entertained by DJ's, comedians, cabaret performers and more. These events take place every Wednesday through Sunday. Although Willis Show Bar doesn't offer food, they do offer one of the very best cocktail menus in the city. Reservations are a must so make sure this date is planned out in advance.

Mirepoix Cooking School

If cooking is something you're into, or want to get into, this can be another fun date night idea. Mirepoix Cooking School is located inside Holiday Market in Royal Oak, and is a great excursion into the culinary world. A wide array of classes are offered like Wine Pairing, Make and Take Pasta, and other themed events as well. A date night cooking class is a great way to get to know someone in a casual atmosphere surrounded. Most of the classes offered include a signature cocktail and are led by trained chefs.

Friday Nights at the DIA

The Detroit Institute of Arts, aka the DIA, has free Friday nights. This means, you can enjoy walking through the rooms of art, exhibits and special events even if you are dating on a budget. After your enjoyable walk though to get your creative side moving, stop by Kresge Court for a casual bite to eat. This restaurant even features tapas and a full-service bar.

Iyengar Yoga Detroit

Get active and take your date on a new level of experiences with yoga. Iyengar Yoga Detroit is a yoga studio that offers classes at a variety of skill levels. Iyengar even offers specialty workshops and sessions that study the philosophy of yoga. If you are a first timer, beginner classes are also available. The best part about this date is that if its going well, there are many restaurants and coffee shops to continue your date to.

Detroit Axe

If you’re going out with another couple or two, a group date at Detroit Axe will test your skills. Aim at the target as you test your strength and precision throwing an axe. After a game or two, choose some board games to play, visit the arcade and check out the food and bar service that is available.

The Siren Hotel

The Siren Hotel is a new addition to downtown Detroit. This boutique hotel is a cultural attraction as their guest rooms feature photography of Bill Rauhauser, a Detroit native photographer whose images captured the spirit of Detroit in the 1950s and 60s. Paramita Sounds record shop is open on the first floor and the unique Siren Shop features local art gear, and ceramics. When visiting here, start at Candy Bar, for the vintage decor scenery and a cocktail. Ready for dinner? Head upstairs for a bite to eat at Karl's, then head over to hang out with a cocktail as you listen to records at Paramita Sound. Then from there the party doesn't stop; head over to Sid Gold's Request Room for piano karaoke.
