I remember growing up wondering if I'd ever like sushi, and I don't know if my tastebuds evolved or what but around three years ago I went to Miami and discovered some of the best sushi I've had. I tried to find something that is just as good in Los Angeles, outside of Nobu, Wabi is it.

"With Chef Rain's innovative cuisine and a vibrant bar scene, Wabi on Rose embodies the laid back Venice lifestyle, with a trendy, new vibe that can only be found on Rose Avenue. Sexy, contemporary design frames this hip spot with a dramatic entrance and chic outdoor seating area." - Wabi

People call "Wabi Asian Fusion Artistry" and they couldn't be more right. Every dish is created with thoughtful care and delicacy. A masterpiece is in each bite that you take.

Reservations aren't easy to come by, but they have a beautiful outdoor space and the restaurant itself is half-outdoors. It's covered in blossoming flowers, the smell of them lingers in the air as you wait for your table.

Executive Chef Rain Pantana has established a reputation as one of the premier sushi chefs in Southern California. Originally from Thailand, Rain worked his way up the corporate management ladder at numerous restaurants before pursuing his dream to become a sushi chef. He takes pride in sourcing only the world’s finest seafood and hand-picking locally farmed, organic produce. Chef Rain is living his dream in Venice as he constantly innovates his menu at Wabi to the delight of our loyal patrons. - Wabi
Before jumping into the food, let's talk about drinks. Their cocktail menu is phenomenal and they have an incredible mezcal-based drink that changed my life and has made me a mezcal fanatic.
Their most popular drink, good but the Oaxaca-Colada is better in my opinion: Wabi Spicy-Rita - Tequila (+1 Mezcal), Lime, Orange, Organic Agave, Fresno & Serrano Chilies
Wilde Ginger - Wilde Irish Gin, Pear, Ginger, Lemon, Velvet Falernum, Cucumber
Lychee on Rose (draft) - Vodka, Lemon, Pomegranate, Lychee, Elderflower, Citrus. Perfect if you're more into the sweeter drinks.
My all-time favorite is their Oaxaca-Colada (wuh-ha-ca co-la-da) which is made with Mezcal, Lime, Orgeat, Aloe, Pineapple, and Cucumber.
Espresso Martini - Vodka, Espresso, Licor 43, Averna, Demerara, Vanilla Bean. The perfect drink to finish off your dinner.
Appetizers are abundant on their menu, but you have to start with the edamame of course. They have two options, sea salt or spicy garlic. I recommend trying both.
Their Crispy rice with spicy tuna, avocado mousse, eel sauce, and serrano chili is amazing and great to start off with, if you want a light salad try their seaweed salad, they also have fresh oysters.
If you're a fan of sashimi I highly recommend the yellowtail Special with serrano, sweet garlic puree, yuzu soy, and micro cilantro.
In terms of sushi, my absolute favorite is their Foxxy which is Spicy Tuna, Shrimp Tempura, seared salmon, artichoke heart, pesto, truffle oil, and spicy eel. A must-have.

Feel The Rain: Spicy Blue fin tuna, shrimp tempura, yellowtail, and spicy eel. (Amazing)

My absolute second favorite is Rick James which is Crispy Halibut, Spicy Tuna, Avocado, Yellowtail, Lemon Aioli, Serrano, and Sriracha.

They also have a variety of classic rolls that are delicious and simple.

Make sure to ask for a side of spicy mayo, it makes everything taste better.
