On Thursday, June 3rd Whitmer announced that she wanted to propose a different idea for spending Michigan's budget surplus.

Whitmer wants to spend the budget three different ways focusing on child care, fifteen dollar wage, and find a way to support small businesses. The surplus comes to the amount of $3.5 billion dollars, during the conference she stated that she will provide more details in the future.

In addition to the fifteen-dollar wage, Whitmer would like to increase wages for employees so people are able to live comfortably. For small businesses, she would like to cover certain costs that certain businesses did not get to take advantage of, and as for child care she would like to help families so they can afford child care.

In an article from Fox 2 News called "Whitmer proposes spending Michigan's budget surplus on $15 wage, child care, small business support" by Jack Nissen who elaborated on how Whitmer would like to spend the money stated

"At this time last year, the state was up against a $3 billion deficit. As the pendulum has swung and the public health situation continues to improve, Whitmer wants to see the extra cash go toward improving Michigan's economic support systems.

Appropriating the dollars still lands on the responsibility of the legislature, which means that before the cash gets spent, it will need approval from lawmakers as they and the executive branch continue negotiating the budget."

Whitmer wants the money to be spread equally and be beneficial for the economy since we are trying to get back on our feet.
