St. Robert, Missouri is home to an out of this world pitstop located on historic Route 66, just off I-44 called Uranus. It looks like a little town of its own, but Uranus is not a real municipality. Louie Keen is the mastermind behind Uranus and the self-proclaimed mayor. He grew up with parents who were livestock dealers. The family travelled all over the country and Louie loved it when they stopped at roadside attractions. Now an adult with a childish sense of humor, he created his own.
It started with the Uranus Fudge Factory and General Store. Their motto is, “The best fudge comes from Uranus!” Employees wave to the customers as they are leaving with a friendly call of, “Thanks for picking Uranus!” The fudge is delicious and can be ordered and shipped across the country. Fudge from Uranus makes a great gift for that special someone in your life.
Uranus is packed full of fun things to do. There is a state-of-the-art playground where the kids can stretch their legs after hours in the car. There is a hatchet-hurling venue named the Uranus Axehole, a restaurant called Chicken Bones Party Bar & Grill, and a Moonicorn Creamery & Funnel Cakery. You can even get a tattoo in Uranus!
If you like to solve puzzles and clues, try Escape Uranus. There are game rooms where players must figure out how to escape in a certain amount of time. Players aren’t actually locked in, of course, but you must solve the challenges to win. There are five themed rooms with different ways to escape. For instance, there is The Uranus Dental and Proctology Clinic where players are locked in the examination room and only have one hour to find a way out before the Evil Doctor Keen returns!
The general store is full of ridiculous and fun souvenirs such as lavatory mists, breath mints, Uranus apparel, and chewing gum. Don’t miss the chance to see the World’s Largest Belt Buckle measuring over 10 feet tall and over 13 feet wide!
The Uranus Sideshow Museum is a novelty itself, full of the strange and unusual, like unicorn skulls and funhouse mirrors. There is a live two-headed turtle, a magic shop, and historical pieces from sideshows and circuses of the past. If you are lucky, Arthur, a beautiful macaw, might start a conversation with you.
Uranus keeps expanding. This year they are adding a mini golf course called Putt Pirates and an amusement park with carnival rides. You never know what’s going to show up next in Uranus!
If you find yourself deep in the crack of America’s heartland, be sure to explore Uranus for an unforgettable adventure that’s fun for the whole family!
You can find Uranus at 14400 Highway Z, St. Robert, Missouri 65584. Their summer hours are from 9 AM — 9 PM seven days a week, including the Fourth of July and Labor Day.
If you have stopped at this silly and fun roadside attraction, please share your experience in the comments!
