While waiting for our food at a local food truck in Hillsboro last week, we came upon a hidden gem right across the street! Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a sign that said: Tacos.
Since we had time, we walked right over to see what was there.
Much to our surprise, it was a Mexican market with a restaurant attached to it. They advertised tacos and pupusas for a dollar each!
We decided to go back on Saturday.
I fell in love with the little restaurant in this market right away. It has a lot of charm, and the people are very friendly. They have a few tables inside, or you can order your food to go.
Their menu is written in Spanish, but all of the employees speak English.
They offer the following choices Monday through Sunday: tacos with chicken, steak, shredded beef, pork (al pastor style), or chorizo. They also have pupusas filled with beans or cheese and burritos.
On Saturdays and Sundays, they offer lamb tacos and a lamb broth to go with them.
We decided upon a lamb taco, al pastor taco, chicken taco, chorizo taco, and two pupusas. We were given a numbered ticket and told to pay at the main store cashier for our food. The lady at the kitchen window was very friendly and lovely. I appreciate that she was able to answer all of our questions about the menu.
Their store is so full of delicious packaged food, produce, and a large selection of colorful pinatas. I know that from now on if I need any Mexican groceries, I am coming here.
Their Mexican cheese selection is out of this world and they have a whole section dedicated to it. I have also never seen a more beautiful or colorful display of vegetables and fruits.
It was so much fun to see the huge variety of dried chilies next to several shelves filled with bags upon bags of paper confetti. If you need it, this store has it!
There is a large selection of dry goods, produce, snacks, and party goods galore.
Next to the cash register, there was a metal cart that had a sign warning of being hot. My husband asked what was inside, and we found out there was corn on the cob or corn in a cup offered from this mysterious cart. They mixed the corn with mayonnaise and cheese and we could add additional hot sauce or other toppings to taste.
We also found some deliciously flavored Fritos chips to buy. They had a spicy version and a chili-lime version. They both proved to be crave-able snacks.
When we checked out, we were amazed to find that our whole lunch along with the corn cup only cost $11.00. We shared the tacos, pupusas, and corn between the two of us and had a very satisfying and fabulous meal. Wow!
Everything was expertly prepared, fresh, and hot. I found the tacos to be flavorful. The lamb ones were not seasoned very much and perhaps could have benefitted from the flavor of the broth. Next time we will order some to try that out.
I especially loved the chicken taco, as you do not get that choice very often at a taco place.
I urge you to visit this place next time you have a craving for tacos! You will not be disappointed!
