First annual Houston International Sports Film Festival to debut in June

HOUSTON - The 1st Annual Houston International Sports Film Festival (HISFF) will be held on June 3rd-6th. Entertainments leading up to the event include a Charity Golf Tournament at the Golf Club of Houston on June 2nd and a pre-screening of Adidas vs. Puma at 8th Wonder Brewery on June 3rd.

On Saturday and Sunday, June 5th-6th, Discovery Green will host on-site screenings and entertainment, including interactive art and sports entertainment for adults and kids, interactive inflatables, kids' face painting & balloon art, LEGO building, and mascot drawing competition, among others.

Featured films will include 'Adidas vs. Puma', a story about two sports shoes manufacturing whose respective owners are brothers in rivalry; 'Foreman', a documentary about the legendary Olympic gold medalist in boxing and a former Heavyweight Champion, George Foreman; 'Althea', a story about the first African-American woman to win at Wimbledon, Althea Gibson, and numerous other sport-related movies.

There will be food trucks as well as live music, entertainment, and visits from Houston sports team mascots. Interested guests can also virtually screen the films by using the interactive HISFF Virtual Pass.

The founder of HISFF and Houston native Josh Merwin aims to provide a medium for aspiring filmmakers to impact people's lives through movies' positive power.

The festival will launch with Josh Merwin's film 'A Gift For Life' to campaign for organ donor awareness". The festival will also have a track of programming that will highlight the importance of racial equality.

This event is supported by Houston Press, Brick Rodeo, Discovery Green, and Goethe-Institut.
