HOUSTON — Rachel Daly, Houston Dash forward, was summoned to the England women’s national team under head coach Hege Riise. Daly will join the Lionesses on Monday, June 7, 2021, for a six-day training camp leading to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The Dash’s captain was also named in the Great Britain football squad, along with star players from Ireland and Wales. It was Daly’s first-time call to an Olympic team.

Daly has accumulated 38 caps and scored four goals for the Lionesses. She played a vital role in England’s semifinal run against the United States at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Her most recent goal for the Lionesses was in a friendly against Northern Ireland on February 23.

She recently broke her club’s record, beating former forward Kealia Watt’s record of 28 goals. Daly has netted 31 career goals since joining Dash in 2016. She played a crucial role in the season that delivered Dash’s first league title, scoring three goals and providing three assists to secure Golden Boot honors in 2020 and NWSL Challenge Cup MVP.

The forward, a Harrogate native, concluded her contract with West Ham United FC in the FA Women’s Super League on January 11 before re-joining The Dash for the 2021 NWSL Season. Daly scored five goals and four assists in 12 matches with West Ham. Her first WSL goal was on October 7, 2020, between West Ham and Brighton & Hove Albion, which resulted in a 2-2 draw before finally winning the ensuing penalty shootout.
