(ATLANTA, Ga.) After going viral and being removed from his high school graduation, Quality Control (QC) rapper Metro Marrs is turning a bad situation around into something that helps local high school graduates in the future.
At his graduation ceremony Friday, the rapper threw approximately $10,000 into the crowd as he crossed the stage. Many attendees and students jumped at a chance to grab some of the money. While the act did not negatively impact the ceremony, it did get Marrs into trouble with authorities.
While facing criticism against the act, the rapper decided to turn the moment into something positive and help his peers financially as they pursue higher education endeavors.
In response to the incident, Marrs announced his new venture, the Loner Foundation. "We are going to be giving out like a scholarship called the 10K rainy day fund scholarship, it’s basically we’re going to give $10,000 to the valedictorian and salutatorian. Each class," he said.
The rapper was handcuffed and removed from the ceremony by police, however, he was not arrested nor were charges pressed against him.
"The school, they thought I was just trying to do something negative when I was really just trying to do something positive for my peers," Marrs said to local news.
The foundation will begin with students at Langston Hughes High School and will expand from there, with plans to expand to other cities and states in the future.
Despite the negative feedback, Marrs says he doesn’t have any regrets and plans to throw $20,000 for his brother’s graduation next year.
