(THE BRONX, N.Y.) New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday that COVID-19 vaccines will be administered at public schools in an effort for more kids to be vaccinated, according to News 12.
The mayor said the city is ahead of the rest of the country as far as vaccinating kids ages 12 and up. De Blasio looks to keep the city in the lead by making the shot accessible where the kids are.
"Starting on Friday, in certain schools, we're going to pilot something very exciting. We're going to start launching in-school vaccination sites," De Blasio said. "This is something I think it's going to open up a world of possibilities. We're working with our Health Department, our Department of Education, with the UFT. We want to make schools a place for kids to get vaccinated."
De Blasio said the sites, which will only be accessible for children ages 12 to 17, will start out in four schools across the Bronx before hitting other boroughs.
The program is expected to reach all five boroughs in the next few weeks, per News 12.
