(NEW YORK) Amazon announced Tuesday that it will no longer test jobseekers for marijuana — a significant move as the company is the second-largest private employer in the U.S. after Walmart.

The Associated Press reports that Amazon is making the switch as more U.S. states legalize cannabis and implement laws banning employers from testing for cannabis.

A New York man had sued Amazon in March after the company rescinded his job offer following a positive marijuana test. The case made it to court because New York City had banned employers from testing job applicants for cannabis in 2020.

In a blog post, Amazon said it would continue testing workers for other drugs and conduct "impairment checks" while on duty. Some roles will require cannabis tests in line with Department of Transportation regulations.

Amazon also said it will support the federal legalization of marijuana and push lawmakers to pass the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act of 2021.
