Columbus is the state capital and the most populous city of Ohio. The city was founded in 1812 and originated as numerous Native American settlements on the banks of the Scioto River. Named after the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus, the city has a diverse economy today consisting of industries ranging from steel to aviation.

While Columbus doesn't qualify as a beach or a mountain city, it has some of the most beautiful natural areas. The city has a thriving art scene, a diverse cultural influence, and is filled with fun things to do for people from every demographic. Located near downtown Columbus, this place is a hit among tourists as well as locals throughout the year. Established in 1895, the conservatory features over 400 plant species from around the world. You can see some of the most uncommon plant species from the Himalayas, the Pacific, the Amazon rainforest, and the desert. There are several rotating exhibitions like "Blooms and Butterflies", "Harvest Blooms", and "Origami in the Gardens". A Columbus institution for decades, COSI is mainly geared towards kids but the interactive exhibits are as fun and educational for adults as well. Inside you will find a planetarium, a dinosaur gallery, and the exhilarating Big Science Park. If you or your kids have any interest in science, you would absolutely love their live science shows and computer simulators. You can learn about ocean exploration technology or ride in a space capsule.

North Market is the only public market in Columbus and for sure one of the largest farmer's market, you would come across anywhere in the country. The market has been in existence since 1876 and the range of products includes fresh meat, baked goods, cheese, and produce.

On certain days in summers, you would find a portion of the market being set up outside and offers things like handmade jewelry, furniture, and local artwork on display. North Market is definitely the best place to immerse yourself in the local culture.

German Village

Numerous Germans migrated to this place in the early 19th century. The neighbourhood has since then maintained its cultural roots through the architecture and the cuisine found here. Some of the most popular places include Book Loft and Schmidt's Restaurant and Sausage Haus. If you are at there at the right time of the year, you can attend the annual Haus and Garten Tour and the German Village Ocktoberfest.

Opened in 2015, the Scioto Mile is a 175 acres popular tourist attraction stretching from Broad Street to Rich Street. You will find trails perfect for jogging and biking along the Scioto River. The main attraction by far is the 15,000 square foot interactive fountain. Other fun things include rock climbing and music concerts.

The area also houses the environmental-focused Audubon Center. The Scioto Mile is a perfect to have a fun-filled family day, a romantic date, or a stroll to clear your head. The sunset views are some of the best you would see.
