AKRON - The pride of Akron, Akron Symphony Orchestra (ASO) will be back performing on the stage with the Outside Voices Concert Series.
Since the beginning of the pandemic last year, ASO has taken a 16-month hiatus. Now, ASO will return to collaborate with numerous composers of Northeast Ohio. This summer's Outside Voices Concert Series is a six-concert series and is free of charge.
The series starts at 7:30 p.m. and takes place at the following locations across Akron:
- Lock 3 in downtown Akron on June 19
- Hale Farm & Village on July 9
- Hale Farm & Village on July 11
- Goodyear Metro Park on August 1
- Firestone Park on August 8
- Forest Lodge Park on August 15
Despite being free of charge, fans who plan on attending the concerts are expected to attend RSVP by visiting the individual concert pages on AOS's website. The RSVPs are to be included in a lucky draw for two tickets to an ASO concert at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall for the 2021-22 season.
The performances on the Outside Voices Concert Series highlight the various segments of ASO as follows:
- At the Lock 3 concert, Akron Symphony Strings will be performing in the first half, followed by the Akron Symphony Symphonic Winds for the second half of the concert. The evening will showcase the performances by J. Rosamond Johnson, Florence Price, William Grant Still, Jessie Montgomery, Nkeiru Okoye, Gustav Holst, and Omar Thomas.
- At Hale Farm & Village on July 9, the ASO strings will perform and feature works from Clarice Assad, Julia Perry, Antonín Dvořák, and Quinn Mason. On July 11, the ASO Symphonic Winds will feature Kimberly Archer, Gustav Holst, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and William Grant Still.
- A collaboration between Akron Symphony Virtuosi and the City of Akron will be presented for August concerts, featuring the works from Scott Joplin, Miguel del Águila, W.C. Handy, and John Philip Sousa. A special show of the series will display the ASO collaboration with the Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS Championship on June 27.
The ASO will also showcase 30 musicians of American Bandstand presented by Fleet Response, a family-friendly, patriotic summer concert music program with familiar composers like Aaron Copland, John Philip Sousa, Scott Joplin, and John Williams. The performance will begin at approximately 6:15 p.m. on the Wentz Financial Group Driving Range.
