AKRON - Akron’s local comic writer Todd Zverloff is releasing the first volume of his science-fiction comic, ‘Confidence’, after it has raised more than its goal of $4,000 through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.

As a former teacher, Todd Zverloff has always loved creative writing. His previous works include ‘Along the Burning River’, a series of stories about Ohio written in collaboration with other Ohio writers. This collaborative project was also funded through Kickstarter, which raised more than $3,000 from 88 backers.

His latest work, ‘Confidence’, is meant to be a simple story set in the future world with short and snappy stories that people can enjoy and learn from. Its story follows a character named Allen who meets a diverse group of people. Throughout the narrative, readers will know the deceitful nature of his character, see how he gets on with everybody around him, and how he excels at getting what he wants through conning them. And, of course, it comes with a twist.

It’s an unusual mix of sci-fi and slice-of-life stories as it sets in a luxury spaceship. Bringing a classic full-color comic art style, Zverloff first wrote the comic for an anthology back in 2016. Though it didn’t get selected, the story idea lingered in the Akron-born artist’s mind for a while.

Currently, Zverloff is finishing the comic and ready to print in the middle of June and will be distributed in August. Backers in Kickstarter will be the first to receive a copy of the first volume of the comic.
