AKRON - During its most recent fiscal year, Akron Community Foundation’s scholarship funds have awarded more than 200 scholarships, totaling more than $430,000. These scholarships are provided via nearly 80 scholarship funds to help local students struggling with financial burdens to achieve their educational goals. Individuals, businesses, as well as organizations played a significant role in establishing these funds.

This year, students are pursuing their education with their scholarships in a variety of institutions. Some of them include Case Western Reserve University, Holy Family School, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, Kent State University, Loyola University, and Ohio State University.

Akron Community Foundation regularly accepts applications for scholarship funds throughout the year. The list for application deadlines and further information regarding Akron Community Foundation’s scholarship funds are available at www.akroncf.org/students.

With 66 years under its belt in building community philanthropy, Akron Community Foundation welcomes and embraces the work of philanthropists committed to the betterment of the community. In 1955, a bequest of $1 million from the Edwin Shaw estate played a key role in the establishment of the foundation.

The foundation is a philanthropic endowment reaching a significant amount of more than $272 million. It has a growing network of more than 730 funds supported by benefactors and organizations with diverse backgrounds.

The community foundation and its funds welcome all kinds of gifts, be it cash, bequests, life insurance, stock, retirement assets, and even real estate.
