A fiery two-vehicle collision temporarily closed down Sierra Highway (Santa Clarita, CA)

On Monday, a fiery crash in Santa Clarita led to the temporary closure of southbound lanes of Sierra Highway after one of the vehicles burst into flames, officials said.

At about 1:30 p.m. Monday, emergency responders got information of a traffic collision on the 23200 block of Sierra Highway near Eternal Valley Memorial Park and Mortuary, as per Ed Pickett, a dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“It was a two-vehicle crash,” Pickett said. “We took two patients to hospital with one in critical condition.” The extent of the injuries remains unknown as of 3 p.m. Monday evening, Fire officials said.

Traffic going south on Sierra Highway was temporarily shut down for an unknown duration as first responders worked to clear the scene. Emergency responders were shortly called back to the crash scene at around 2:30 p.m. when one of the vehicles involved in the collision had caught fire, as per Fire officials.

The crash remains under investigation.
