Purpose Built Schools Atlanta has announced on Wednesday, May 26, that it had appointed Dr. Nikkita Warfield as their Chief Academic Officer following the retirement of Purpose Built Schools’ co-founder, Barb Preuss, who served as the organization’s Head of Schools.

Dr. Warfield recently completed her 22nd year as a teacher after serving in both the Dekalb County School System and Newton County School System. The announcement follows a competitive search process, vetting candidates from throughout the Atlanta Public Schools’ district and within Purpose Built Schools.

In Dr. Warfield’s career as an educator, she has served as a teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, and principal. More recently, Dr. Warfield served as the Director of Secondary Education and Professional learning for the Newtown County School System.

At home, Dr. Warfield is a mother of two, a wife, an educator, worship leader, choir director, and mentor for young people. She has dedicated her life and career towards educating the younger generation and founded Young ladies of Distinction, a mentoring group that helps young women who are seeking social, academic, and community progress through academic achievement.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Warfield join Purpose Built Schools,” says Greg Giornelli, president of Purpose Built Schools. “In addition to her impressive experience, Dr. Warfield felt like an instant fit when our leadership and recruitment team met her during the selection process. Her passion for education is contagious. She will make an immediate impact and we look forward to welcoming her as she begins this summer.”
