Cleveland Institute of Art

Starting on June 4 until August 13, the Cleveland Institute of Arts’ Alumni Exhibition at the Reinberger Gallery will be open to the public. There, visitors can view artworks from CIA alumni from different graduating years and varying artistic practices.

Through the exhibition, the CIA aims to give guests an opportunity to learn more about the university and its influence on the region’s artistic vocabulary.

This exhibition will be juried by Emily Carol Burns, a curator as well as an artist. She is also the founding editor and director of Maake Magazine and a founding director of Maake Projects.

Her portfolio includes various single-art and group exhibitions, such as a solo show entitled ‘Linger Still’ by Kaveri Raina at Assembly Room in New York and a group show called ‘Biophilia’ at the Unpaved Gallery in Yucca Valley, California. In addition, Burns has been invited as a visiting curator at the BRIC and the NARS Foundation in Brooklyn. Her work as an artist has also been featured in media, such as Beautiful Decay, Hi-Fructose, and Juxtapoz.

Besides being a jury for the exhibition, Burns will provide an exhibition title and a short statement about the selection process, her interests, and her professional background, with a perspective on the state of contemporary art.

This exhibition was also made possible through the hard work of the Alumni Council, which continues to build a strong relationship with the CIA and is committed to sharing ideas involving alumni by producing events such as the alumni exhibition. This exhibition will also be part of the council’s work to strengthen the relationship between the alumni and the CIA.

For further information about the exhibition, contact the Director of Alumni Relations and Scholarship, Alexandra Burrage, by sending an email to amburrage@cia.edu.
