In this restaurant review I’m gonna go over Freddys Frozen Custard & Steakburgers. You will read about the food, experience and overall impression. Let’s go!
The Food
I first tried Freddy's in San Antonio, Texas. What led me to the restaurant was the word "frozen custard" in their restaurant name. Frozen custard is like a thick ice cream made with more egg yolks than traditional ice cream. I had it recently at a mom and pop restaurant in the San Antonio area and I wanted to try Freddy’s to see how they compared.
Freddy’s frozen custard is so good they actually sell it by the pint in vanilla and chocolate. They have a drive-through and a dine-in restaurant. You can order their frozen custard in sundaes, concretes, malts, shakes and by the cone. You can also buy it soft frozen or hard frozen by the pint.
Their frozen custard concrete is kind of like a Dairy Queen blizzard.
It’s frozen custard blended with toppings. It’s really thick and you’ll need to eat it with a spoon.
Some concrete flavors include key lime pie, dirt n worms, birthday cake and other flavors. You can mix in literally anything you want from their available toppings into your concrete like sprinkles, brownies, cheesecake, cake, pie, chocolate sauce, caramel, chocolate sprinkles, peanut butter, marshmallow and more.
They have around eight different specialty sundaes available which you can pick from when you order or you can create your own sundae with as many toppings as you like.
I get my son a vanilla sundae with rainbow sprinkles and Oreo, whip cream and cherry. I get a vanilla sundae with strawberries. My husband will usually get one of their seasonal concretes.
They offer seasonal concretes throughout the year. It's a unique flavor like key lime pie, strawberry shortcake or some other new flsbor not on the regular menu.
Their burgers are steak burgers so it’s going to be a little bit of a different experience than eating a McDonald’s burger made from ground beef. They are fresh and made to order.
If you love a good burger then you’ll fall in love with the Freddy's steakburgers. They also serve hotdogs, fish sandwiches, fries, and combo meals.
Their fries are not my favorite, to be honest. They are really thin and seasoned french fries. The seasoning tastes great but the fries are almost like matchstick fries. They’re just too thin for me and I really do not enjoy them, so much so that I usually don’t order a combo and will just order a sandwich when I visit Freddys.
Their hotdogs are beef hotdogs. They taste like they’re made from quality meat and their chili dogs are super delicious. They come on a toasted bun and everything together just makes for a great hotdog.
Their frozen custard is some of the best custard I’ve tasted. I often order a pint of vanilla any time I visit Freddy’s.
The Experience
My experience here has always been good. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I’ve never had my order messed up either.
Overall Impression
I rate Freddy’s a 9 out of 10. This is a chain restaurant so you don’t necessarily need to be in the greater San Antonio area in order to enjoy Freddy’s. They are located across the nation. If you get a chance, stop in to taste Freddys. I recommend you try their burger, hot dog (especially the chili dog) and one of their frozen custard creations like a concrete or sundae.
