While in The Garage Food Hall, my boyfriend and I decided to try Azúcar Morena, a Venezuelan food vendor. Neither my boyfriend nor myself had ever tried Venezuelan food before, and we were not disappointed. It was fantastic!

We ordered a chorizo arepa and papelon as our drink. Papelon is a traditional Venezuelan lemonade, and it's quite good. The chorizo arepa was delicious and savory, but not too heavy. It was a bit greasy. At the risk of offense, the best way I can describe the chorizo arepa to someone who has never had Venezuelan food before is it tastes like a delicious, designer sloppy joe.
I'm sure the non-chorizo ones taste differently if my description has turned you off from it. It really was delicious and I encourage you to try it. You can customize your meat and sauce choices for each arepa (see menu).
Final thoughts
We loved the chorizo arepa and papelon. They were the perfect balance of savory and sweet, and the portion size was perfect for one person, or for two people sharing. Azúcar Morena is a bit pricey, as our total came out to $19.62, but they are located in a tourist hot spot so that's to be expected.
If you don't get around to visiting The Garage Food Hall, you can order from their kitchen on Doordash. Their menu, deals, and schedule are all regularly updated on their website. Give them, and Venezuelan food in general, a chance! It's well worth your money.
