The news has arrived that the Berkley City Council has given the city tentative approvals for two art festivals to occur later this year.
The council actually conditionally approved the returns of the Berkley Art Bash and Berkley Street Art Fest, which is the news we have been waiting for. The Street Art Fest will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 7, and the Art Bash will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m Saturday, September 11, 2021.
Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both events had been presented cancelled. This year will be the first time these two events will take place since 2019.
The Street Art Fest will be located on Coolidge Highway between Catalpa Drive and Beverly Boulevard, and the Art Bash will be on 12 Mile Road between Kipling and Buckingham avenues. There is talk that the events could be expanded a couple blocks though.
This years event will have a specific focus on the chalk art contest. Come to see the amazing displays presented as this is an event that one can't go to just anywhere. Along with this chalk art contest, there will also be shopping and food vendors offering some breathtaking and delicious options.
In the past, there hasn't been an overload of attendees due to this event being such a new one in the area. Each year the crowd is expected to increase as locals and those from out of town become more aware of this fun and creative event. These events are a great way to enjoy the outdoors, social distance and take in some astounding art. This year will be the 4th year, The Street Art Fest, is in action and it will be the 19th year of Art Bash. Both of these two events originally had an annual date later in the summer, but both changed to take further precautionary measures. The footprint has been expanded for safety and traffic control. These expansion methods were recommended by the departments of Public Works and Public Safety.
This newer event could just end up being the highlight of your summer so grab your friends and be entertained by all that these events offer. Along with this being an awesome event for those that will be displaying and selling their works of art, businesses in the area are also looking forward to these events as they are a great way to bring foot traffic into their businesses as well.
