Americans love big cities, but that doesn’t mean they don't find small destinations alluring. It is true that the cities attract people with their tall skyscrapers, expensive malls, and luxurious atmosphere, but the best way to experience the fundamental culture of a region is to travel around the smaller villages far from the big cities.

These following villages located are located in Europe and are favourite among Americans.

Alberobello, Italy

Alberobello, in the region of Puglia in Southern Italy, is a strange and picturesque destination which is becoming an important fixture on the travel itineraries of tour operators as well as independent travellers.

The small town has been made a UNESCO World Heritage site for its unusual districts of trulli, the characteristic white-washed conical-roofed houses of the area.

Bibury, England, UK

Bibury is a beautiful charming village situated on the bank of the river Coln in Gloucestershire County of England. The famous English designer named William Morris described it as “The most beautiful village in England”.

Comprised of the 17th century stone cottages and beautiful Coln river flowing through the village are the main attractions of Bibury. It is also among the most photographed villages of England.

Cavtat, Croatia

Cavtat is a unique town on the Adriatic. The whole of Cavtat is overgrown by Mediterranean vegetation, with the ever green pine and cypress trees.

There are more than 5 milesof sandbanks, clean sea water, sand beaches and bays, fine new hotels of high and luxury class, and all this has made Cavtat one of the most sought after and visited tourist resorts in the Dubrovnik area.

Göreme, Turkey

A town literally carved into the volcanic rock, Goreme is the gateway to the Goreme National Park, a vast UNESCO World Heritage Site that houses spectacular 10th- and 11th-century cave churches.

The park itself is known for its chimney rock formations and is very popular with backpackers. It’s also a great area to sample Turkish cuisine and wine.
