Cleta Winslow, an Atlanta City District 4 Councilmember, has been co-sponsoring two community events during the Memorial Day weekend to commemorate Memorial Day and honor those who died during the Vietnam War.

The first event, which the city held on Saturday, May 29, provided free health screenings alongside family-friendly activities for children at Cleopas R. Johnson Park. The city will hold a second event on Monday, May 31, at 11:00 a.m. at Piedmont Park.

“Members of my family have served in the Army and the Navy and I’m grateful each year as the representative of District 4 to take time to honor our fallen soldiers and the men and women of our armed services,” Winslow said. “Monday’s event at Piedmont Park will honor the legacies of over 240 Atlanta and Fulton County soldiers who died during the Vietnam War.”

The city council is Atlanta’s primary governing body. It reviews and implements all laws that govern the city. The council also manages capital budgets and operations of the city with the mayor’s approval, as it continually monitors revenues and spending for local government operations.

The Atlanta City Council also plays a crucial role in reviewing and decision-making on many land-use and zoning matters. Major economic development projects for the city are also part of the council’s responsibility.

The Atlanta City Council is made up of 12 districts and three at-large posts. Council President Felicia A. Moore, Carla Smith in District 1, Amir Farokhi in District 2, Antonio Brown in District 3, Cleta Winslow in District 4, Natalyn Mosby Archibong in District 5. Further on, Jennifer N. Ide in District 6, Howard Shook in District 7, J.P. Matzigkeit in District 8, Dustin Hillis in District 9, and Andrea L. Boone in District 10 make up the council.

The rest of the list is Marci Collier Overstreet in District 11, Joyce M. Sheperd in District 12, Michael Julian Bond in Post 1 At-Large, Matt Westmoreland in Post 2 At-Large, and Andre Dickens Post 3 At-Large.
