I love grabbing breakfast in San Francisco. There are an endless amount of places to choose from, but most of the time I am trying to keep it simple before I start working. One of the best parts is the wide-variety of cuisines incorporated into breakfast in the city and the sheer amount of bakeries you will find around town.

Here are 4 breakfast spots in San Francisco:

1. Breadbelly - This is my favorite spot to enjoy breakfast in San Francisco, especially if I have plans near Golden Gate Park. It’s currently open from Thursday to Saturday. They have an online shop that you can browse to see what’s available. My favorite item on the menu is the Kaya Bun which is a coconut-pandan cream filled milk bread bun. A close runner-up is the Not-Ube Tart made with a buttery crust, Stokes Purple sweet potato, toasted meringue, and shaved salted egg yolk. There is an obvious mastery of flavors happening here and many of the tastes and not readily available elsewhere. The shop is quaint and well-lit. During my last visit before the pandemic, I observed people have meetings, dates, and of course the remote office worker. They serve Wrecking Ball coffee and the espresso is superb. 1408 Clement Street, San Francisco, CA 94118. (415) 349-0969.

2. Tartine Manufactory - Pretty much the opposite of Breadbelly for me. Tartine Manufactory is also a delicious bakery, but certainly an expensive and special occasion visit for me. Dining here was always a wonderful experience and I love watching the bakers work. It reminds me of a spot I really love in Miami. There was turmoil when workers sought to unionize during the pandemic, but it seems to be resolved now. Breakfast is definitely the better option if you are on a budget, but honestly you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu and the vibe at the location is quite the experience. 595 Alabama Street, San Francisco, CA 94110. 3. Kitchen Story SF - Excellent brunch in the Castro with an Asian flair. My favorite dish is the Pork Belly Rancheros made with slow braised Kurobuta pork belly, avocado, arugula, kimchi pico de gallo, spicy guacamole, and corn tortillas. It is simply amazing and such a great way to celebrate brunch. The best side is the Millionaire’s Bacon®, pretty much the icon of a delicious meal. Enjoy bottomless mimosas for $22 per person. Other items that look great are the burgers including the New England Burger, Spicy Burger, and California Burger. You really cannot go wrong here. Enjoy! 3499 16th Street, San Francisco, CA 94114. 4. Cafe Madeleine - This is my favorite place to start my day when I head to the Financial District and Market area. It’s a French cafe and the design of all their spots certainly feel European. The best thing on the menu is their Caffe Mocha, it is one of the best ones I have ever enjoyed. Their pastries are also super good and so are their sandwiches. The staff is super-friendly. 149 New Montgomery Street, San Francisco, CA 94105. (415) 227-4077

Enjoy!
