I love authentic Macedonian cuisine so when I see it in the United States, there is nothing more that makes me happier. Art and Jakes in Detroit, MI is one of those places and it makes me so happy.

Traditional Macedonian dishes consist of:

This is what a lot of traditional families use in their daily meals. However, if you were to go to a restaurant, the main dishes are either meat, pizza, or pasta. Meat in restaurants is very popular. I’m not talking about a burger. I’m talking about an extra large burger patty, stuffed with cheese, topped with a garlic mushroom sauce, with a side of potatoes. Another popular dish is a plate of kebapi, bread, and a side of fresh onions, and ground red pepper flakes. These dishes have something in common. It’s the way that the meat is prepared. It is very unlikely to get meat only seasoned with salt and pepper. Macedonians use a lot of traditional seasonings to season their meat to perfection which makes it incredibly flavorful. Well folks, that is why my husband loves- and I mean loves- Art and Jakes. It is because they have a section on their menu that is pretty much dishes inspired from Macedonia and they taste authentic. One of these dishes is "Mixed Grill."Mixed Grill at Art and Jakes in Detroit, MI is kebaps, a burger patty the way it is made in Macedonia, and a chicken stuffed with cheese and rolled in bacon. This sounds like all of the most popular dishes in Macedonian restaurants and everything on his plate tasted just like the ones in the restaurants in Macedonia!! If you ever visit, order their Mixed Grill and you will not be disappointed.
