Shortly after 11 am on Friday a vehicle crash with possible injuries was reported at San Fernando Rd & Paxton St.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find a train and car had collided. There were no passengers in the vehicle, which is pretty odd, but we’ll leave our comments out of this.

Firefighters worked to access passengers in the train. They reported that the vehicle was parked, which solves that mystery. They found no trapped passengers.

Firefighters reported that 25 train passengers had sustained minor injuries.

Ten passengers needed transportation to a hospital.

Police closed traffic at San Fernando Road and Paxton Street as three patients were being treated for minor injuries and one patient was being treated for possible major injuries.

Firefighters then closed the off ramp from the Ronald Reagan Freeway. CHP closed San Fernando Road between Paxton Street and Van Nuys Boulevard and SR-118 in both directions at the off-ramps at San Fernando Road as seven people were transported to the hospital and scene was cleared.

No additional train passengers needed transportation to a hospital.

One hour later, the train tracks were cleared and the train was set to resume its movement toward wherever it was going.

Firefighters advise there were 10 total passengers with injuries. Three passengers did not require medical transportation and seven passengers were transported to local hospitals.

How did the train hit a parked car? Did the train go off its tracks or did someone park their car in the train’s way? These questions remain unanswered for now.
