Free-time is an allotted amount of time that you have to do literally anything you want. You could spend it playing video games, watching Netflix, researching stocks, listening to podcasts, or going for a jog.

Lately, my girlfriend and I have utilized any free time we have to dedicate it towards several different things. She loves researching new stocks, cryptocurrencies, and useful podcasts about life.

I’ve been spending tons of time writing, reading stories about finance and investing, as well as watching videos about life and how to get the most out of it.

Everyone has a different motive. Everyone has different needs. Everyone complains differently.

You can’t complain that your life isn’t changing if you continue to do the same thing you’ve always done.

For the longest time, my life didn’t change in high school because, after sports practice, I would hop onto my PS3 and play Call of Duty. It helped me ease some stress, but it didn’t add any knowledge or value to my life after the 5th hour of continuous play.

I complained that my life was boring, I didn’t go out much, and that I felt empty. I had no right to complain because I wasn’t doing anything different to change my circumstances.

If you truly want to stop complaining, you have to look at how you spend your free time and adjust accordingly in a way that aligns with your goals, beliefs, and values.

It’s not my place to judge how anyone spends their free time, but you get out what you put in.

We all know someone who says they wish they knew how to play the guitar or piano, yet they don’t own these instruments, nor do they take time to study and practice the instruments themselves.

It’s mindboggling that many people don’t understand that what they put in is what they get out. My teacher and coaches in school told me that 90% of it is just showing up.

When you show up to your free time with a mission, you’re bound to succeed and at least improve in whatever it is you desire.

Final Thought

Free time or personal time is a limited resource we all have. The excuse that we’re “too busy” is invalid plenty of the time because of poor time management.

Evaluate how you currently spend your free time and whether you’re happy about it or not. Could it be spent doing something else? Are you going to do anything about it or keep doing the same thing you’ve always done because you're comfortable?

It’s realistic questions like these that determine the outcome of our lives. Developing good habits with time management now is going to pay dividends years down the line. You’re in control of the outcome.
