Summer is coming, and it’s time to take out your rucksack, tent and hiking shoes, and go camping. But you might be wondering, “where’s the best place to go camping near Cleveland?” You’ve come to the right place, because we have got just the list.
1. Ottawa Overlook Backcountry Site
There’s a camping spot inside the Cleveland Metroparks right at the Ottawa Overlook Backcountry Site. It is run by Brecksville Reservation and is located off of the Buckeye Trail, only 25 minutes from downtown.
There are three tent sites that can accommodate up to four people each. Both bathroom and portable water are located about a quarter-mile from the campsite at Ottawa Point Picnic Area. The maximum stay is one night, and guests may set up their tent after 3 pm. Guests must take down their tents the next day at noon. No fires or alcohol allowed.

2. Lake Erie Bluffs
If you are looking for a camping destination near Cleveland with views over Lake Erie, Lake Erie Bluffs is a go-to spot. Located about 35 minutes from downtown Cleveland, this beautiful area is well known for its 50-foot coastal observation tower, stunning views out over the lake, natural beach, and beautiful wildflowers.
Lake Erie Bluffs offers two campsites you can find about 0.25 and about 0.65 miles from the Shoreline Trail. There is no electricity or water at these campsites, but there are restrooms next to the Lane Road parking lot.

3. Punderson State Park
This state park has several great camping opportunities, from RVs to tent camping. It’s located about 45 minutes from downtown Cleveland. It is the perfect RV camping spot near Cleveland for families, as it is pet-friendly and has several conveniences for tent and RV campers.
Punderson State Park features the remains of the last glacier across Ohio and its various activities such as fishing, kayaking, and more. The campground itself features electric and non-electric sites with water and sewer.

4. Nimisila Reservoir Metro Park
Just about an hour south of Cleveland and just outside of Akron, you can get to the Nimisila Reservoir Metro Park. This park surrounds Nimisila Reservoir and is perfect for water activities, including wildlife spotting, boating, canoeing, kayaking and fishing, and, of course, camping.
Around the Metro Park, there are 29 campsites located, each featuring a picnic table and fire pit. Six of the sites have electricity while the others do not. There are restrooms scattered around the park, but there are no showers or drinking water. This spot is also pet-friendly!

5. Geneva State Park
Located along Lake Erie with stunning views (and conveniently close to some great Geneva wineries), our final spot is a great place to stay that only takes about an hour’s ride from downtown Cleveland. Perfect for RV or tent campers.
This state park has water and electric hook-up sites. There is also a coin-operated laundry and shower house with toilets. Combine that with the volleyball and basketball courts, fish cleaning house, playground, and a seasonal camp store that sells ice, firewood, and camping supplies. As far as Cleveland camping locations go, this place has it all!
