(VENETA, Ore.) Going into Memorial Day Weekend, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office is warning boaters that water levels at reservoirs are low and rescue resources are for you, not your boat, KATU reports.

The sheriff’s office said the latest reading from Fern Ridge Reservoir shows only 66% capacity. The deepest point is 26 feet at the center of the reservoir.

“If boaters venture out too far, they are likely to become grounded,” the sheriff’s office said. “During a boat rescue, LCSO’s number one priority is to make sure citizens are returned to safety first, there is no guarantee vessels and other persona property will be able to be recovered.”

The sheriff’s office encouraged everyone to follow posted warnings at all recreation areas and boat ramps.
