When we happened to come upon this lovely teriyaki restaurant, we were very hungry for lunch. We had driven to two different locations looking for fried chicken food trucks, but they weren't there!
Enter: Kiyoko Teriyaki in Hillsboro. It is part of a five restaurant local chain. They are not all owned by the same owner, so they are allowed to have some differences.
We loved the colorful photos of the food outside, so we decided to go inside and order some long-awaited lunch.
Luckily, we all love Japanese food. It is easy for all three of us to find dishes to enjoy.
We had fun talking to the cashier, who told us all about the restaurant. She said that this place is associated with the local Ninja Bowl restaurant. The owners are also opening a new restaurant called Snow Bubble next door. They will serve Korean-style shaved ice and bubble tea. Yummy!
We chatted with the cashier and discovered that the name of the restaurant is the sound that a chicken makes in Japanese. Their logo is shaped like a chicken as well. I find that very charming, indeed and easy to remember.
I loved how open and modern the restaurant is. Even though we were ordering take-out, I could see how pleasant it would be to eat here. I loved the personal touches of the beautiful houseplants, pretty light fixtures, and wood furniture. It looks modern, yet cozy.
They have a lot of indoor seating for families to enjoy their food together. The place is spotless, warm and inviting to everyone.
Now on to the delicious food!
First, we ordered a Japanese curry rice bowl for our son. We went to Japan in the summer of 2019, and he practically lived on that dish on that trip. This curry was plentiful, mild, and full of delicious and healthy vegetables. A big winner!
Next, my husband ordered the tonkatsu with rice. It is a chicken cutlet that is breaded with panko bread crumbs and then fried. It is so yummy! I love the sauce that it is served with because it is so flavorful. The chicken was moist inside and nice and crunchy on the outside.
I ordered both the chicken yakisoba and the spicy chicken dishes to share with my husband. They were both out of this world delicious!
I am a big fan of yakisoba and I love that they gave me extra teriyaki sauce to pour over the noodles. Everything was very fresh and delicious.
Even though the spicy chicken packed some serious heat, I was in love with the flavor. It was moist, juicy chicken with a fiery sauce! I could not stop eating it, even though it was very spicy.
This speaks volumes as to the quality of the food served here at Kiyoko Teriyaki. Everything is prepared with care in a casual setting. They take pride in everything that they serve with love.
Their food is simple, fresh, Japanese comfort food. It is a great healthy option that will make your taste buds very happy.
Their portions are very generous as well. We easily got two to three meals out of each entree that weekend. I love to rest more on the weekends and cook less, so that is a big bonus for me.
If you love healthy, flavorful food that fits your budget and your schedule, you are in for a big treat. I highly recommend you stop by to get some food at Kiyoko Teriyaki.
I invite you to stop by and try a favorite dish today!
