You and everyone else might be looking for something to do this weekend in Virginia Beach for Memorial Day weekend or visiting another time of year and wondering, "what the heck is there to do around here?"

I feel like this is an obvious statement, but for those who don't know, one of the most attractive features Virginia Beach can offer travelers looking for a good time is the boardwalk. There are several restaurants, shops, and attractions to check out that are all awesome. The seafood is freshly caught, and the atmosphere reminds me of a small beach back home in California, very cozy.

The Witch of Pungo's laughter can be heard on quiet nights

What interests me about the boardwalk, though, is the haunted history. You might come across a building called the Virginia Beach Surf and Rescue Museum if you walk along the strip. The Virginia Beach Surf and Rescue Museum was once a U.S. Life Saving Station established in 1903. This proud staple of Virginia Beach history is home to many historical maritime exhibits, local surf legends, shipwrecks, and much more.

They are open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am-4 pm, making it the perfect weekend activity for the whole family. Be warned, though, as many employees have reported a lot of paranormal activity in the Old Coast Guard Station Tower. The tower is a historical relic and also one of the most haunted places in Virginia Beach. So it is said.

One of the most famous stories to come from the lighthouse is the tale of the Witch of Pungo. In the 1660s, Grace White was born and was said to be a little odd even as a child. She had no siblings and worked on her family's farm. When it turned out Grace had a talent for it, people started accusing her of being a witch. She was sentenced to a trial by ducking--where the potential witch would be dunked in water to see if she could float. Grace managed to escape from her ties twice, which "confirmed" her status as a witch.

It is said you can hear her cackling near the tower on quiet nights. The staff has also heard footsteps in the attic of the guard tower when they were alone. Some say the victims of shipwrecks are the ones to haunt the c, as it was common practice to lay those who died at sea there until bodies could be identified or missing limbs located.

You can go on ghost walks every October along the boardwalk

Every October, the museum gives "Ghost Walks" that cover multiple haunted spots across the boardwalk. But you can, of course, still visit the museum and hope to get lucky. Either way, it is a beautiful outing for the family if you are searching for something to do around Virginia Beach.

Have you been to the lighthouse or the museum? What was your experience? Would you be brave enough to visit?
