The Colorado Lottery on behalf of the Colorado Department of Health & Environment (CDHPA) will be randomly drawing one $1 million winner on each of the following five dates: June 4, June 11, June 18, June 25 and July 1. To be eligible for the June 4 drawing all that Coloradans ages 18 and up need to do is have had at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination by the end of May.
Since the state of Ohio announced a similar drawing announcement on May 13, their Vax-a-Million campaign has helped drive an increase in vaccination rates among Ohioans 16 and older by more than 28 percent.
“This dramatic increase in vaccinations indicates that the Vax-a-Million drawing has been impactful in creating momentum for vaccinations throughout Ohio,” said Stephanie McCloud, Director of the Ohio Department of Health.
The state of Colorado is investing CARES Act funds into this drawing in the hopes of increasing vaccination rates more than they would with advertising programs.
The drawing will be based on the vaccine records contained in the Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS) at 11:59:59 PM Mountain Standard Time the Tuesday night before the drawing. It can take a few days for information to be entered into CIIS, so you should try to get vaccinated as far in advance of the drawing as possible.
Governor Polis estimated that at this time the odds of winning are “one in 500,000” or so.

In addition, the state is working out details of a plan to offer drawings to residents ages twelve to seventeen for scholarship prizes. Details of that plan should be announced sometime in the coming week.
