Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms continues to encourage unvaccinated Atlantans over the age of 12 to get their shot in a nationwide drive to protect more people from COVID-19.
The campaigns are held by the Vaccine Equity Cooperative, which is a collaborative effort to ensure that access to the vaccine is fair and equitable, particularly for vulnerable communities.
This collective effort aims at educating locals about the vaccine’s effectiveness, giving information regarding the locations of the vaccination, and providing instructions on how to make an appointment.
Additionally, the campaign wants the locals to be assured that the vaccine is safe and free— even without health insurance. They inform the public through their message that there is no need to show a government ID or prove immigration status, that a language interpreter is available, and that people can choose their own vaccination time and location.
Staff from the campaign are going door to door and attending local businesses and community events in an attempt to reach out to more unvaccinated people, considering that Georgia ranks near the bottom of all US states when it comes to the pace of vaccinations.
Mayor Bottoms was vaccinated publicly in a massive vaccination program at Mercedes Benz Stadium in March. The stadium has since become the largest vaccination site in the Southeastern United States with over 350,000 people vaccinated on the spot.
