The Princeton Review has just named the University of Houston as one of the top 50 public "Best Value Colleges'' for 2021, giving this year’s UH’s spring graduates a sweet graduation gift as their future commences.
The list comprises a total of 200 universities across the US, in which UH is ranked 44th. Out of over 600 colleges across the country, The Princeton Review tallied their final scores based on each school’s academic excellence, tuition and cost, as well as job prospects for graduates.
The Princeton Review gathered data from surveys and statistics that cover more than 40 data points in total, including academics, costs, financial assistance, debt, graduation rates, and career or salary information.
Rob Franek, The Princeton Review’s head editor, said that the Review board applauds the listed institutions’ achievement to provide strong academic backgrounds and career assistance while opening doors to prospective students who may not otherwise be able to afford to go to college. Aside from loans, the UH’s Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid offers a range of scholarships, grants, fellowships, and a work-study plan that helps students gain employment while enrolled.
UH was founded in 1927 and has around 46,000 students, making it Texas’ third-largest university. The University’s Vice Chancellor for Students Affairs and Enrollment Services, Richard Walker, stated that being named one of the best value colleges reflects the university’s “commitment to affordability and student success”.
UH’s merit can also be seen from its extensive alumni base with over 5,000 members. Many prominent people have passed through the halls of the UH, such as Elizabeth Warren (US Senator), Jim Parsons (Actor), and Matt Mullenweg (WordPress creator), who have built careers that carve the way for UH’s prospective and current students alike.
