Gen Korean Barbecue is always a staple in my book when I am looking for a delicious all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue. They have a few locations all around the bay area, especially in the South Bay. I usually go to to the San Jose location since they have a parking lot which is convenient but the wait is usually pretty long so make sure to come early and have reservations before you plan on coming.

The experience eating here feels like you are an event or rave. Similar to the other Gen locations, it features EDM/pop music and neon lights so it gets you pumped and excited if you are into the music. The weekend is dinner price all day but there are 34 options on the menu to choose from. There are four types of bonchon and a side of salad surrounding the grill. Gen has a more premium and varied selection of meat such as pork cheek or intestines. My usual orders for meat are usually: chadol (thinly sliced brisket), Hawaiian steak, Cajun shrimp, bulgogi (marinated beef), and red wine pork belly! I always start with chadol since it cooks the fastest and doesn't burn the grill. You should always start with this since it is not marinated so it will not stain the grill as bad. Their Hawaiian steak is so well-marinated and comes with a side of pineapple! I've tried their garlic pork belly and don't like the peanut butter taste. The red wine pork belly is a game-changer. I remember not liking it a few years ago but I'm obsessed now! The wine flavor is subtle which pairs well with the smoky taste of the pork belly. Try it with a radish paper and holy crap; it's amazing. Trust me, this is one item you do not want to skip on.

The service here was incredibly fast and prompt. They are very attentive servers, especially with grill changes. They came to replace the grill even when we didn't ask for it. The meat came out within a few minutes of ordering. There are plenty of side dishes to choose from. I am not a huge fan of their sweet & spicy rice cake or popcorn chicken but their japchae and bean paste soup is pretty good. My favorite Gen out of the Bay Area locations. Get your Korean barbecue fix here if you are craving for delicious and high-quality meats!
