As more and more live music venues are opening up again with the ease of COVID-19 restrictions and regulations, shows that have previously been cancelled and rescheduled and new shows alike are popping up all over. This is especially true in the downtown Buffalo, New York mainstay Mohawk Place, which recently announced a number of new live music events.
Taking place tomorrow, Saturday, May 22 is The Last Reign with Kingsnake and Hangongetready. The doors to the show will open at seven in the evening and the show itself will start at eight in the evening. Tickets for this seated and limited capacity show are available through Eventbrite for ten dollars and masks will be required when not seated.
Coming up on Saturday, May 29 is the now sold out event, “Mohawk Place presents...Rock n Ska.” Running from eight in the evening until midnight, three bands are on the docket for an evening of punk rock and ska music. The Abruptors, Wolf Tickets, and special guests, The Urban Achievers, will all be taking the stage. Current capacity limits only permit seventy-five attendees, masks are required inside the venue, and the event will be a seated event.
Not too long after on Friday, July 2 will be the event, “Over & Out, On The Cinder, and Starjuice - LIVE at Mohawk Place.” Starjuice has been described as energetic dream punk, while Over and Out are local folk-punk favorites, and On the Cinder rounds things out with a loud and angry set.
With doors at seven in the evening and “Over & Out, On The Cinder, and Starjuice - LIVE at Mohawk Place” starting at eight in the evening, this punk rock-centric show is eighteen plus only and costs seven dollars to get in. There are no advanced tickets for sale, masks are required, and the show is expected to be seated with limited capacity, so make sure to arrive early to secure a seat.
The following weekend on Friday, July 9 will be Brookhaven, Tokyo Monsters, and Kingsnake at Mohawk Place. The concert is ten dollars at the door with doors starting at seven in the evening and the music kicking off at eight in the evening. This event requires attendees to be eighteen years old or older in order to attend.
Coming up in mid-July at Mohawk Place will be the Summer 2021 Edition of Emo Night Buffalo. The annual throwback party will take place Saturday, July 17 with doors opening at eight in the evening. DJ Alexis Valentine will be hosting and spinning some of the early 2000s emo classics, while Cut Me Up Genny will also be performing favorites live on stage. This show is eighteen plus only, tickets are available for presale for ten dollars through Eventbrite with the same price at the door.
Shortly thereafter on Saturday, July 24 is the event, Nunslaughter Hexing Buffalo with doors starting at seven in the evening and the show beginning at eight in the evening. Performing at this event will be Nunslaughter, a devil metal group out of the Pittsburgh and Cleveland areas, Debrained, a death metal group out of the Buffalo and Niagara Falls area, and Prepare for the Mindscan, a grindcore group right from Buffalo. The show is eighteen plus only, masks must be worn at all times, and tickets are available in advance through Eventbrite.
Moving into the new fall shows, on Friday, September 3 at eight in the evening will be Torres with Sarah Jaffe. Celebrating the release of her fifth studio album, “Thirstier,” Brooklyn songwriter Mackenzie Scott (also known by her stage name – Torres) is bringing her unique brand of intensity to Mohawk Place. “I wanted to channel my intensity into something that felt positive and constructive, as opposed to being intense in a destructive or eviscerating way,” Scott noted of her fifth studio album. “I love the idea that intensity can actually be something life-saving or something joyous.”
Torres with Sarah Jaffe is an eighteen plus show only with tickets available through Eventbrite. Previously cancelled show tickets will be honored. “We are always fantasizing about something that’s out of reach. That is what a fantasy is. It is something you cannot have. But I wanted to turn that idea around and ask, ‘What if your fantasy was the thing that you have, this endless loop of fantasy?’” Scott also noted of her music. “It’s a way to be in this fantastical, magical realm forever. I want to make that space for myself. I want to create a reality where my day-to-day is actually my fantasy. That’s what I want more than anything.”
Also happening in September at Mohawk Place is Lee DeWyze on Tuesday, September 7 with doors opening at seven in the evening. The winner of American Idol season 9, Lee DeWyze, will be performing with special guest D’Arcy. This sixteen plus only show offers pre-sale tickets for fifteen dollars and VIP tickets starting at sixty-five dollars.
Not too long thereafter will be the Michigan Rattlers, performing Wednesday, October 6 with doors at seven in the evening. This sixteen plus show will feature the Michigan Rattlers performing with special guests to be announced. Tickets are fifteen dollars in advance and are available through After Dark Presents.
Coming up on Saturday, October 23 will be The Last Reign’s “Evolution Vinyl Release Show.” Celebrating the double gatefold vinyl edition release of their sophomore album, “Evolution,” The Last Reign will be performing with Behest of Serpents from Ohio, and two other bands to be announced. Doors are at seven in the evening, with the show starting at eight in the evening. Tickets are twelve dollars pre-sale or at the door.
On Thursday, November 4 with doors at seven in the evening is The Slackers at Mohawk Place with special guests to be announced. Tickets are available for twenty dollars pre-sale and as this event has been rescheduled, previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date.
Closing out the new summer and fall shows is Planet Booty with Rick Aucoin on Sunday, November 7. Doors for the sixteen plus only show start at seven in the evening with tickets available in advance for twelve dollars through After Dark Presents.
