For those of you who don’t know me, I've just recently moved to New York City. Even before I moved here I knew it was expensive. And of course before i moved here everyone warned me that it was expensive. But in case you didn’t know New York City is REALLY expensive. I went from living with my parents rent free to now spending most of my paycheck every month (*insert upside down smiley face emoji here*). But as i know i’ve said in my articles before, there are literally a million things to do in NYC, and honestly you’d be surprised how many of them are free!
I know as the summer approaches and my friends and I are looking for fun and exciting things to do will definitely be referring back to this list of activities that we can do for free! When you are paying top dollar for rent, food, transportation, etc. it’s important to save money where you can. And in a city like New York there’s just no reason to be spending tons and tons of money trying to find activities to cure your boredom when there are so many great free things to do!
So here are my ideas for free things to do in New York City this summer:
Rent a kayak at the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse.
First up - kayaking at the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse! They rent out kayaks completely free for 20 minute intervals, you just need a reservation. So enjoy some peaceful time on the water admiring the gorgeous views of the city and get your reservation in now!
Visit the Bronx Zoo.
And if you like going to museums, why not try the zoo! The Bronx zoo has free admission on Wednesdays which is amazing! I absolutely love animals so going to the zoo is such a fun time. However I usually just never think to go to the zoo, but with free admission I think I’ll definitely be taking a trip there this summer!
And while you’re at it take a trip to the New York Aquarium.
And if you enjoy going to the zoo, then definitely check out the New York Aquarium, while you’re at it! The aquarium has free admission Wednesdays from 3 - close. So if you are bored one Wednesday (and don’t want to spend a ton of money) then just finish off a fun day at the zoo with a trip to the aquarium! A perfect fun and different way to spend a day that will literally cost you no money!
Take a tour and taste some brews at The Brooklyn Brewery.
My next idea is for the fans of beer and breweries - and that is to take a tour of the Brooklyn Brewery. They offer free tours everyday and then when you are done you can do a tasting in their tap room! That of course will cost some money (but it’s still relatively inexpensive in terms of entertainment in New York City).
