flip'd by IHOP restaurant debuts in New York City in July 2021

IHOP's first fast-casual spinoff dubbed flip’d by IHOP expects to be open in New York City in July 2021 with three more locations planned later this year.

The initial rise in popularity of this concept is that the fast-casual promises the best of both two culinary worlds: Fast Food & Quality Dining. One could argue that price has a lot to do with it as well.

An article in QSR Magazine last month states, "To overcome the convenience and price advantage held by quick-serve rivals, the new restaurant had to offer an experience superior in quality, hospitality, and ambiance. But that was just half of the formula. To win over the casual-dining patron, the food had to rival the quality, and at a better price. And if casual-dining-quality food could be served faster—not as fast as quick-service restaurants, but faster than a full-service experience—then the new restaurant concept stood a chance of drawing enough volume from both segments to make a go of it.

According to a 2020 Allied Market Research report, the global fast-casual restaurant market is expected to grow with a CAGR of 10.6% from 2021 to 2027.

Fast-casual restaurants have been rising in popularity, but the pandemic caused several dine-in restaurant chains to get into the game to stay afloat. Outback did it with Aussie Grill and Cheesecake Factory started Social Monk. Now IHOP wants to ensure that they are evolving to meet their guests’ casual dining needs as well.

“While we know there is a pent-up demand for a return to dining in restaurants, we anticipate that our delivery and takeout business is here to stay as consumer needs continue to shift and they seek out different ways to experience IHOP favorites. With flip’d, we can provide that on-the-go fast casual experience, making now the perfect time to bring this concept into the world.” ~ Jay Johns, President of IHOP

For more than 62 years, IHOP has been a leader, innovator, and expert in all things breakfast, any time of day. IHOP promised that flip’d by IHOP will be different than the classic dine-in experience patrons have previously enjoyed.

Innovative IHOP Menu

The fast-casual flip'd by IHOP will feature traditional IHOP menu items with a reimagined twist. Guests can expect to see convenience items on the menu like Pancake Bowls and Egg Sandwiches. Lunch and dinner items like Burritos, Chicken Sandwiches, and Steakburgers will also be served.

The entire menu will be available all day long. The freshly prepared items are designed to be consumed alongside fresh pressed orange juice and signature coffee brews, including nitro cold brew and specialty espresso beverages.

Customers who are extremely pressed for time can pick up Grab-and-go salads, wraps, and freshly baked goods.

With convenience in mind, flip'd visitors can order from a digital kiosk or directly at the counter upon entering the restaurant. Online ordering in advance to pick-up items from a designated to-go area is and delivery is also available.

flip’d by IHOP will also open in Lawrence, Kansas; Columbus, Ohio; and Dublin, Ohio this year.
