The BonBonerie is one of the best bakeries in Cincinnati. When I lived in Cincinnati, the BonBonerie was always the first choice when it came to picking something sweet for a nicer and more formal event.
The BonBonerie is located at 2030 Madison Rd in Cincinnati in the Hyde Park area. The bakery has been in business for more than 30 years. It is equipped with a cafe, a tearoom, and a bakery area.

At BonBonerie, our rule is that everything we make must be two things: beautiful and delicious. That means using quality ingredients like sweet cream butter, cane sugar, fresh lemon juice and zest, Belgian chocolate and real vanilla from Madagascar, We create everything by hand in the BonBonerie kitchens, including all our doughs, icings, syrups, batters, and fillings.
Some of the best items on the menu are the macarons and their specialty cake which is the Opera Cream Cake or Torte. The Opera Cream Torte is their signature cake and it is a big hit with their customers.
Cafe and Tea Room
The cafe and tea room at the BonBonerie hosts private events and afternoon tea. There are specialty events for kids parties, girls night out, couples, and tea parties.
Afternoon tea is really special at the bakery. Reservations have to be made for the afternoon tea. You can choose from over 15 teas that are specially blended by a tea specialist. The tea choices include black and green teas and caffeine-free tisanes. You can also choose to have a champagne cocktail on the side.
The pastries and snacks for the afternoon tea arrive in a 3 tiered stand. All the savories are made at the BonBonerie. A typical 3 tiered stand will include finger sandwiches, an assortment of cheeses, salads and desserts. The desserts from the bakery may include butter cookies, french macarons, and double fudge brownies. The final tier will contain classic English scones. bread, seasonal berries and jams and clotted cream.
There is also a children's tea served with a 3 tiered stand and containing child-sized snacks.
Prices for the afternoon tea are $28 for each adult and $20 for each child and it includes food, beverage and the gratuity.
COVID-19 Safety
With COVID-19, the bakery has been limiting customers to 6 at a time inside the bakery lobby. There is ample space in the dining area and staff and patrons are required to wear masks at all times and use hand sanitizers.
However, with the new relaxation of COVID-19 safety rules, more customers are venturing out and there might be long queues as you wait for your baked goods and for making payments. The bakery is currently working on a system to get customers out the door faster.
