CONROE, TX – Montgomery County residents are being asked to make sure they are prepared for severe weather through Thursday as flash flooding warnings are being put in place.

Based on data from the National Weather Service, most of Montgomery County is set to receive 6-8 inches of rainfall over the next two days, with some portions of West Montgomery County, including Lake Conroe, receiving as much as 10 inches of rainfall.

Due to the forecasted severe storms, moderate to major river flooding is expected throughout the County. The San Jacinto River Authority is already preparing for the possibility of releasing water from Lake Conroe due to high water levels.

“We are in daily communication with the National Weather Service, Harris County Flood Control, the River Forecast Center, and local offices of emergency management. SJRA manages Lake Conroe storm releases any time the level exceeds 201 ft. msl, which will likely happen during this week’s storm,” the SJRA released in a statement.

The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management also announced the Woodforest Stadium mass vaccination site would halt operations for all of Wednesday and possibly Thursday depending on weather conditions.

The possibility for flash flooding and high water also has school districts on alert. Conroe ISD, Splendora ISD, and Willis ISD will announce decisions regarding school closures by 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday after an overnight report from meteorologists and officials.

A tornado watch has also been put in effect until 9:00p.m. Tuesday evening, which is when the severe weather is expected to begin affecting the area.

Please make sure you have enough food and water for the next two days as the worst of the weather makes its way over the area. Do not drive through high water, and in case of a loss of power, do not run generators indoors.
