(ATLANTA, Ga.) Atlanta’s food scene continues to expand. Another food hall is in the works and is set to host 21 food stalls.

Co-owner of the most recent food hall, Chattahoochee Food Works, Robert Montwaid is opening an additional hall at the space formerly occupied by Underground Atlanta. The downtown landmark is currently owned by Shaneel Lalani, the CEO of Billionaires Funding Group and video gaming company Lucky Fortune777.

The new location is described as a 28,000-square-foot “boutique food market”, and while it hasn’t been named, it will stand alongside live music venue Masquerade (reopening this summer) and Future Showbar, an LGBTQ-friendly restaurant, cabaret, and dance bar opening June 4.

According to a press release, Montwaid plans to occupy the location with food stalls that serve a mix of both local and international food options. The Atlanta locations are not Montwaid’s only experience with food halls, the owner is also behind Gansevoort Market in New York City and Dayton’s Market in Minneapolis.

Montwaid partnered with celebrity chef Andrew Zimmern to bring the Chattahoochee space to life. According to Zimmern, Montwaid spent weeks over the last year eating at Atlanta-area restaurants and speaking to a number of industry insiders as part of his research to help fill the stalls for that food hall.

“Atlanta has a thriving culinary scene with some of the country’s most notable restaurants and restaurateurs located here and there is an opportunity to bring that captivating and palate-pleasing experience to downtown,” Montwaid said in a prepared statement.

“At Underground Atlanta, we plan to highlight the unique flavors found throughout the city and bring together a community of chefs to create a one-of-a-kind experience.”

Construction for the new food hall has already begun. While there is no official opening date, more details are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
