A fatal DUI crash killed a 31-year-old Sacramento man on Highway 99; Alan Reyes arrested (Sacramento, CA)

On Saturday, a 31-year-old Sacramento man lost his life and police detained 19-year-old Alan Reyes, a resident of Roseville after a fatal DUI collision on Highway 99.

The incident took place at about 1:49 a.m. south of Florin Road. As per reports, Reyes was speeding on his truck in the far-right lane when he arrived upon slower moving traffic. Reyes deviated to the right and hit a sign and a chain-link fence along the road and then he drifted back onto the road, and struck the center divider, as a result of which his passenger was ejected from the truck.

Reyes’s vehicle came to a stop heading south in the fast lane. Shortly after, a 31-year-old Sacramento man driving a van collided head-on with Reyes’ truck. On arrival, authorities declared the Sacramento man deceased on the spot. At the same time, a 35-year-old Sacramento man driving an SUV swerved to avoid the crash but he struck the center divider and the passenger who was previously thrown off from Reyes’ truck.

Medics rushed the truck passenger to the hospital with critical injuries and took Reyes to a hospital with moderate injuries. Officers evaluated him and he was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Police arrested him on charges of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

An investigation is underway.
