(PORTLAND, Ore.) After more than a year of being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Regal Cinemas in downtown Portland will reopen on Friday, KOIN reports.

Regal Fox Tower on Park Avenue opened more than two decades ago and is downtown Portland’s oldest movie theater. After the theater’s lease expired during the pandemic, its future at the Fox Tower location became unclear.

But after a year of struggling with closures, the lease has officially been renewed and Regal will be back showing movies at Fox Tower by the end of this week.

“Regal is excited about it and so are people,” Vanessa Sturgeon, president and CEO of TMT Development, said. “We’re excited to get back in the theater and see movies and hear people laugh, get that popcorn, that glass of wine and be able to enjoy being around people for movies.”

Sturgeon said people want to experience the vibrancy of downtown again and this is just another piece of that.
