Maranda Wong has applied her extensive STEM expertise as a Materials and Project Engineer for Pratt and Whitney’s Commercial and Adaptive Engineering programs. She will be featured on the upcoming Women of Innovation® Spotlight webinar on Tuesday, May 18 at 12 Noon.

Wong is the Commercial and Advanced Military Engines CIPT Deputy and ACE (Quality) Deputy Manager in the Materials & Processes Engineering department for Pratt & Whitney. She plays a key role in integrating MPE technology with the different modules for the GTF and Advanced Military Engines. She also mentors and coaches project management skills and reinforces use of ACE tools to aid in everyday problem solving to help drive the business.

Wong was recognized as a 2020 Women of Innovation® Finalist in the Community Innovation & Leadership category. Wong’s commitment to share her expertise and experience with pioneering peers and the next generation of groundbreaking women in STEM goes beyond the workplace, in a number of pivotal roles. At Pratt and Whitney, she is an advisor of the P&W Asian-American Leadership Forum and part of the RTX Engineering Ambassador Program. In addition, she mentors college students in the Girls Who Code program and is a board member for the Society of Women Engineers Hartford Chapter.

Tuesday’s webinar comes as nominations are now open for the 2021 Women of Innovation® awards. The deadline for nominations is June 18, and additional information – including a listing of categories and qualifications – is available at www.womenofinnovation.org.

The May 18 webinar will be moderated by Stacie Ropka, member of Women of Innovation® Committee and Partner at Axinn. Her practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, due diligence and client counseling, with an emphasis on the life sciences.

The Women of Innovation® Spotlight monthly webinar series features women from the network of more than 800 previous honorees, as well as members of the upcoming 2021 class. This live, interactive program will continue on Tuesday, June 15, when the speaker will be Jenny Gaffney, Senior Project Manager at Walt Disney Company. The webinars include compelling stories highlighting these women's current work as well as the career paths that contributed to their success.

Women of Innovation® Awards to be Held This Fall

The 17th annual Women of Innovation® awards program will be a virtual event this fall. The prestigious awards highlight the increasing impact of women innovators, role models, and leaders in science and technology professions throughout Connecticut, and also recognize outstanding young women at the high school and collegiate level pursuing technology studies.

The highly regarded annual event is presented by the Connecticut Technology Council (CTC) and Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology (CCAT).

Nominations are being accepted in the following categories of Innovation & Leadership: Youth, Collegian, Secondary Academic, Postsecondary Academic, Research, Community, Entrepreneurial, Small Business, Medium Business and Large Business. An award will also be given for Inspiring STEM Equitability, presented to an individual for promoting equality and diversity in STEM.

Following a review of nominees’ credentials by expert judges after the nominations deadline on June 18, the finalists for the Women of Innovation® awards will be announced in July. Finalists will be selected based on their professional experience, history of innovation, ability to think creatively and solve problems and demonstration of leadership.
