Hundreds of families and children soaked in the sunshine on a beautiful Saturday Morning at Virginia Key Beach Park to take in all things circus related during the 1st Circus Day at the Park event. As promised those attending witnessed eye catching aerial shows, gigantic stilt walkers, jugglers, Cirque du Soleil acrobats, other performing arts companies and more.

This family fun event was organized by The Miami Foundation, Les Ailes du Desir and sponsored by Miami Dade County, Intrinsic Edge Capital Management, Frost Science, ID Beauty, Graubard Miller, Mayami Mexicantina Wynwood, Perry Ellis International, Florida East Coast Reality LLC, StomatCare, Fun 4 Miami Kids, Key Biscayne Community Foundation, Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello PC, and UBS.

Les Ailes du Desir Creative Director Elisa Palermo put together the county’s first ever Circus Day Event with the help of Mariana Kellogg, Administrative Assistant and Ana Oviedo Fundraising Director. The MC was Dale the Host, with DJ J9. Also on hand were family friendly vendors, food trucks, and activities for children such as face painting and ballon art. There were also workshops where adults and kids alike could learn circus arts.

The highlight of the event took place on a special stage where the public got to enjoy performances by talented acrobats, among them Stephanie Chisholm, Kelly Mixon, Jorge Moreno, Samantha Mixan and Rony G, Duo Karyna Konchaviska and Suren Bozyan.

And a special guest speaker shared perspectives on the importance of physical activity programs like circus arts for children with autism, ADHD, dyslexia and different learning or physical abilities.

“We received a grant from Miami Dade to host a Family Circus Day and we are truly excited as this is the first time that there is a free, scalable, and inclusive Family Circus Arts Community Event in Miami,” said Les Ailes du Désir Founder Claudine Choquette. The turnout was great and the community really responded. We’d love to do this again next year,” she said.

“This event is possible “With the Support of the Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami Dade County Mayor, and Board of County Commissioners.”
