On Sunday night past 9 pm a shooting was reported near 1336 Fitzgerald Street in OaI land near Emeryville.

Police arrived on the scene to find a man had been shot in the lower left leg.

The man self-transported to a nearby hospital in a silver Infiniti.

Police found the vehicle at the emergency room. They found no bullet holes anywhere on the vehicle.

Police back at the scene, in the middle of Fitzgerald Street, found a black Nike that the man lost during the shooting.

This allowed officers to confirm that the man was shot at the scene.

The incident occurred near Peralta Street, close to Hollis street and 35th Street. While technically in Oakland, it occurred close to Emeryville.

The man's condition is currently unknown. The suspects are presumably at large.

Emeryville and Oakland Crime

While Oakland continues to see many crimes including homicides, the neighboring city of Emeryville has had zero homicides for the third consecutive year, so far.

After an annual record 2600 reports in 2019, 2020 saw a 44% decrease in crime reports in Emeryville. Crime in 6 of the 13 categories tracked were down.

Aggravated Assaults were the the only category that saw any significant increases up 15% from last year. There were no reported homicides for the third consecutive year.

Property Crime plummeted 44% in 2020. The 69% reduction in auto burglaries (down from 1593 in 2019 to 486 in 2020) accounted for a bulk of the decline.
