If you are planning an event in the Irish Hills area, Jenni Farmer, founder of Pastry Perlieu in Brooklyn, Michigan, can make your special day a whole lot sweeter!
Pastry Perlieu not only does gorgeous wedding cakes, but a vast assortment of desserts, such as tarts, tortes, and chocolate dipped strawberries. Jenni’s creations are as delicious as they are beautiful.
Jenni made the desserts for my wedding, and I was so grateful an area business owner recommended Pastry Perlieu. Instead of a cake, we opted for a variety of goodies, like mini strawberry cream cupcakes, truffles, mini keylime tarts, and coconut macaroons. Our “cake table” was stunning. The desserts were so masterfully crafted, they looked like pieces of art. The guests were wowed by the added elegance and they raved over how good everything tasted. I still think about those truffles more often than I should … yum!
If you’d like to meet Jenni and try some of her amazing creations, stop into IDK Creative Décor (behind Closet Overload) Saturday, May 22nd from 12 PM — 6 PM. Jenni will be there with all sorts of tempting treats for sale, such as cinnamon rolls, assorted cupcakes, cannoli, and the wildly popular salt and caramel brownies. IDK Creative Décor is located at 146 ½ North Main Street, Brooklyn, Michigan.
Jenni has a degree in Culinary Arts and Hotel Management from Henry Ford College in Dearborn. She worked as a sous chef and pastry chef at a golf club in the Metro-Detroit area for over ten years. Next, she worked in Motor City Casino’s bake shop and in their award winning, 4-diamond restaurant.
Nowadays, Jenni lives in the Irish Hills with her husband and two sons, both in high school. She often uses her family as “taste testers” when she is creating a new recipe. “My oldest, Blake, loves everything I make — he says it’s all good. My youngest, Ty, takes it very seriously. He rolls it around in his mouth and gives me well-thought-out feedback,” she said, laughing.
For weddings and other events, Pastry Perlieu can do mini cupcake displays, breakfast sweet tables, and or an assorted minis table. For weddings cakes, Jenni recommends wedding cake display tables with several different cake flavors. The cakes can be all different sizes and iced so that all the cakes compliment each other. They can be decorated with fresh flowers and displayed on individual stands and platters.
Along with standard cake flavors, Jenni has an array of exciting, unique cakes like her Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, which is chocolate cake with peanut butter filling and chocolate mousse and her Banana Foster, which is banana cake with cinnamon, caramel, cream cheese mousse, and candied walnuts. Jenni even does ice cream cakes!
When placing an order with Pastry Perlieu, they appreciate you giving them as much advance notice as possible — at least a week ahead of time for all standard cake and dessert orders from the menu on their website, but they will try to accommodate last minute orders. Jenni’s skills in the kitchen are not limited to desserts. She also caters the entire meal for small parties up to thirty guests. “I’ve been cooking and baking my whole life,” Jenni said. “It’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing.”
