(LOS ANGELES) Former Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell said he is considering running in the recall election against California Gov. Gavin Newsom, according to The Hill.
"We're considering it," Grenell said on Fox News Tuesday. "My criteria is just looking at the long term: How do you fix this for the long term? How do you make sure it's not just a flash in the pan?"
Grenell, who previously served as a U.S. ambassador to Germany, would join an already crowded field, including transgender advocate and reality television star Caitlyn Jenner, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, former Rep. Doug Ose and businessman John Cox.
Grenell referenced Stacey Abrams' efforts in Georgia to flip the state in its presidential and Senate elections in his own strategy to run.
"I want to do to California what Stacey Abrams did to Georgia, and I think it's going to take about four years," he added.
The Hill reports anyone can run in a recall election, though Republicans have struggled to find a candidate that can stand out.
Newsom remains in a position of strength despite the successful recall supporter efforts.
A Tuesday poll found Newsom's numbers have improved since January, with 49% of voters opposing his recall, while 36% support his ouster.
